We had four kids representing the team at the Irish National BJJ Championship in TUD Blanchardstown past weekend. Rio O'Neill, Regy-Ray Dunne, Luke Tighe, and Harvey Pierucci, all part of the same kids class took it to the mats against some good competitors from all over Ireland.
Rio and Reggy both earned double-gold medals for winning their respective gi (kimono) and nogi divisions is an exciting fashion. Harvey only competed in the gi and similarly, won all of his matches to earn the top spot on the podium. For Luke, it was only a second outing on the competition mats, and while he didn't win his match, he showed some really good skills and bagged more experience for future success.
The competition served as a strong indication of the key factors contributing to success. The three boys who claimed the top position did not achieve it by chance - they maintain a rigorous training routine, listen their coaches' advice, and regularly participate in competitions, having experienced numerous matches (both victories and defeats) over the last 2 years.
A special thanks goes to our Kids Program coaches Jack Dolan and Cillian Griffin, who put time every day into the kids' preparation!
Next stop - European Championship in Lisbon for Harvey and Reggy.
